In his words, ‘I did it 1st copy copy. I lead y’all follow. Lace on top of Timberland crazy thing is you did exactly the same color if I wanted to copy I do a different color. I finished the trendy 2017 during my first show right after I inspired Diddy’.

Philippines sends trash back to Canada

The Philippines has started returning dozens of shipping containers full of trash to Canada after a long-running row over waste exports that has tested diplomatic ties amid threats from firebrand President Rodrigo Duterte.
The 69 containers were loaded overnight onto a vessel at the port of Subic, northwest of Manila, and left on Friday for a month-long journey to the Canadian city of Vancouver.
A Philippine court in 2016 declared the import of 2,400 tonnes of Canadian waste illegal. It had been mislabeled as plastics for recycling.
Canada said the waste, exported to the Philippines between 2013 and 2014, was a private commercial transaction done without the government’s consent.
“The government of Canada is taking all the necessary measures to ensure safe and environmentally sound transport, handling and disposal of the waste in Canada,” Mark Johnson, spokesman for Canada’s environment and climate change ministry, said in an email statement.
The Philippines had accused Canada of stalling, prompting angry rebukes from Duterte, a volatile but hugely popular president known for his tirades against Western governments.
He threatened to declare war on Canada, dump the trash in front of its embassy in Manila, or personally sail with the waste and leave it in Canadian waters.
His spokesman, Salvador Panelo, said he hoped ties with Canada would now return to normal.
Philippine Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin said diplomats whom he had ordered to leave Canada in protest had now been told to return. Locsin posted a picture on Twitter on Friday of the ship departing Subic, with the message “Baaaaaaaaa bye”.
The Philippines is the latest Southeast Asian nation to take issue with developed nations they say use the region as a dumping grounds for waste.
Malaysia, the world’s main destination for plastic waste after China, said on Tuesday it would return as much as 3,000 tonnes of waste back to the countries of origin.
Environmental activists gathered in Subic as the containers were being prepared, holding banners that said “never again” and “we are not the world’s dump site.”
Some carried cardboard boxes made to look like shipping containers bearing signs that read “good riddance” and “Canada take back your trash”.
“The waste trade is a very unacceptable practice. It is a deplorable practice,” Greenpeace Philippines director Lea Guerrero told reporters.

Bauchi State governor Sets to boost economy and create jobs

Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed

The Economic Advisory Committee earlier set up by the newly sworn-in Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Muhammed, on Thursday presented the governor with a blue-print of how to boost the state’s internally generated revenue.
The Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Usman Bugaje, while presenting the document in Bauchi, said the material also contained suggestions that enable the creation of job opportunities in the state.
“What we have here is the economic blueprint that will guide your policies in the next four years.
“We urge you to implement the recommendations in this report with the best hands you can get around.
Agriculture is an area where Bauchi has a comparative advantage to grow faster than others, so we implore you as governor to focus more in this area.
“In the next two years, we are looking at a Bauchi State that will export products to different parts of the world, and that will serve as reference point to other states,’’ said Bugaje.
While receiving the report, the governor promised to work with technocrats, in collaboration with the rivaled sector, in implementing the recommendations.
Muhammed also promised that he would provide the right leadership to enable the harnessing of the abundant agricultural resources in the state.
“I will bring in technocrats to implement this economic blueprint, in collaboration with the private sector, because there is need for partnership to open new frontiers, guided by global best practices.
“We have consulted some of the best technocrats in the country to show us the way; we will continue to do so, even though, sometimes, we will consider political expediency,’’ the governor said.

Trade War: China to start tariff hike on American products Starting from June.1

US Vs China Trade War
Condoms, perfume, wine and pianos are among a cocktail of American products that will be hit by a steep increase in Chinese tariffs on Saturday as Beijing retaliates in an escalating trade war.
The move will cap a week that was marked by a heated war of words and Chinese threats to curb exports of rare earths, which are key to US tech industries, after President Donald Trump blacklisted telecom giant Huawei.
Washington and Beijing resumed their tariffs battle earlier this month after trade talks in Washington ended without a deal, with the US side accusing Chinese negotiators of reneging on previous commitments.
The countries have exchanged tariffs on 360 billion dollars  in two-way trade so far.
Trump more than doubled punitive tariffs on 200 billion  dollars in Chinese goods to 25 per cent, and launched the process to hit nearly all remaining imports from the Asian country.
China responded by announcing that it would increase tariffs on 60 billion dollars  in American products on June 1, giving some room for a potential resolution which has not materialised.
Since then, China has warned that the US must show “sincerity” if negotiations are to resume and angry officials accused Washington this week of engaging in “naked economic terrorism.”
The US tariffs appear to have already had an impact on Chinese manufacturing activity, which contracted more than expected this month, official data showed on Friday.
Now China is hitting back Saturday with tariffs ranging from five per cent to 25 per cent on 5,410 products.
Those facing the 25 per cent hike include:
– Beauty products such as perfume, eye makeup and lipstick.
– Kitchenware such as ovens, microwaves and coffee machines.
– Sports equipment including tennis table balls, badminton rackets and footballs.
– Pianos and string instruments.
– Liquor including gin, wine and tequila.
– Other items include condoms, diamonds, industrial robots, tires, fabric, wood and toys.
Tariffs are not the only weapons in the trade war.
The Trump administration has issued orders to curtail Huawei’s access to American components it needs for its equipment — though a 90-day reprieve was issued.
Chinese state media suggested this week that Beijing could hit back by stopping exports of rare earths to the United States, cutting off key materials used to make everything from smartphones to televisions and military equipment.
Chinese mines accounted for 71 per cent of the world’s rare earths production in 2018, according to the US Geological Survey, down from 80 percent in 2017 and 95 percent a decade ago.
Cutting off exports to the US could give Beijing leverage in trade talks as China supplies 80 per cent of the rare earths imported by the United States.
But analysts say China may be reluctant to target the materials because it could hasten a global search for alternative supplies of rare earths.

Inauguration: OYO State Governor Elect Scraps School Fees Payment For Oyo State Students

Oyo state governor scraps School fee payment for students
Gov. Seyi Makinde Of PDP

The newly inaugurated Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, has said he would scrap the N3, 000 being paid by pupils of all public primary and secondary schools in the state and also promised to donate his salary to pensioners.

He admitted that the greatest challenge confronting the state was the issue of poverty and promised to tackle it with a drastic leap in agriculture, just as he pledged to look into the issue of over 400, 000 out-of school-children in the state.
Makinde stated this in his eight-page inaugural speech shortly after he and his deputy took the oath of office at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.
However, Makinde said the state was not capable of paying the new N30, 000 minimum wage but was quick to add that, “I believe in true federalism.
“I believe the states should decide the minimum wage of their workforce based on individual realities. All states are not created equal; so, it is against the principle of fairness to apply a blanket rule to govern them all.
“That being said, our plan is to make Oyo the first state to pay above the national minimum wage. We know this is possible. We have already set our plan in motion to make this possible. But, this requires time. We propose staggered increments.
“I met with organised labour during my campaigns and made a pledge to an open relationship. I intend to stand by that promise. We will have a sincere conversation and arrive at the best decision possible. Rest assured that the decision will put your overall best interests first,” he said.
He said, “Ají e bí Òyó làárí, Òyó ò kí e bí baba nìkan.” Oyo leads and others imitate. We are a state proud of our many firsts, adding that, “in 1965, just five years after Nigeria’s independence, the first skyscraper was built in the Western Region, in an area that later became part of our beloved Oyo State. Well, before independence, this same territory hosted the first TV station in Nigeria, the first university, the first housing estate in Nigeria, the first government secretariat and the first modern parliament. Let me also add that we host the first stadium in Africa, the first dual carriage road and more recently, the first private TV station in Nigeria.
“Reflecting on these firsts makes you realise that there must be something special about this region. The legendary Oyo greatness, the Pacesetter State, lives on.
“Increase their opportunities. Our region that housed the first university in Nigeria now has a state with the seventh highest number of out-of-school children. Over 400,000 children in Oyo State are out of school.
“Effective immediately, the school fees of N3,000 in state-owned secondary schools is hereby abolished. We want enrollments to go up, we want our children off the streets and in the classrooms. We are throwing the school doors wide open. Whoever opens a school door, opens an opportunity. We are opening opportunities for a brighter future.
“We also know that education standards in Oyo State are poor. Oyo State recently ranked 26th in Nigeria in WAEC performance. While we invite the students to come in, we will focus on raising the standard of education in Oyo State. We will work on providing needed infrastructure and manpower by increasing Oyo State’s education budget to 10 per cent of our total annual budget, increasing yearly until we match UNESCO’s recommendation of 15-20 per cent. We will be a pacesetter state in education.
“We know that quality education is not possible without quality teachers. Quality emoluments and benefits attract quality teachers. We are not ignorant of the plight of our dear teachers. We know the state of the teacher’s pension scheme. During my campaigns, I promised to donate my entire salary as governor to the Teacher’s Pension Fund. I stand by that promise.”

@realDonaldTrump: Trump is ‘God’s Sent & Choice for U.S. – Cleric

Amid the debates about impeaching the current US president over Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe, Pastor Robert Henderson, head of a ministry, has claimed that he interceded for Donald Trump before the courts of heaven.
In an interview with televangelist Jim Bakker, known not only for his preaching but for having a criminal record, Pastor Robert Henderson has predicted that those trying to remove Donald Trump from office will fail.
Henderson, promoting his book “Prayers and Declarations that Open the Courts of Heaven” on “The Jim Bakker Show”, insisted that people, opposing the incumbent president are fighting God as Trump is the Almighty’s pick.
“He’s God’s choice. They can try all day long to remove him, they will not remove him. God said, ‘I set him as the president,’ and they can fight, and they can curse, and they can do all that they want; the problem is that they’re fighting against God”, Henderson insisted.
According to the pastor, he had a dream about then-candidate Trump in March 2016. Trump is said to have asked Henderson to appeal for him in the courts of heaven to help his campaign and ensure his victory.
The preacher, who runs Robert Henderson Ministries, exchanging prayers for donations, claimed that he agreed and they appeared in what he described as “the council of the Lord”.
He insisted that God had instructed him to make a decree out of the Bible verse James 1:11: “All flesh is as grass, and flower is as the glory of the grass.”
“I want you to decree that Hillary Clinton’s campaign is as grass and that she is as the flower of the grass, and the burning, searing, exposing heat of God will come and bring exposure, and she will wither away and Donald Trump will be the president of the US”, the pastor recalled God’s alleged instructions from his dream.
His revelations emerged online just a day before Special Counsel Robert Mueller made his first public statement after a 22-month-long investigation, dubbed the Russian probe.
Mueller reiterated his position that his team didn’t determine whether Trump had obstructed justice or not, refusing once again to either exonerate him or accuse him of a crime.
He also confirmed that there were “systematic efforts” to interfere in the US presidential election in 2016, but cited the report’s findings, saying that the investigation hadn’t found any evidence of a “broader conspiracy” involving Trump.

Appeal Court in Abuja Sacks Regina Daniels’ Husband, Ned Nwoko As PDP Senator-Elect

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, on Thursday nullified the election of Ned Nwoko as the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District.

The court, in its ruling, said the case instituted at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, which culminated in the recognition of Nwoko as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was wrongly filed.
The appeal court said that the matter ought to have be brought at the lower court before the expiration of 14 days from the time of the incident that occasioned the suit.
Besides, it ruled that the failure of the applicant at the lower court to file the case before the expiration of 14 days showed that the case had become statute barred and the lower court lacked jurisdiction to handle the case in the first place.
In its words, “As at the time the matter was instituted at the Federal High Court, the case was statute barred. We set aside the decision of the Federal High Court and strike out the case”.
It would be recalled that INEC had withdrawn the certificate of return it issued to Nwoko’s challenger, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, following the Federal High Court decision.
With the appeal court verdict, Senator Nwaoboshi will now be recognised as the senator-elect for the district.
Also, suffice it to say that Messrs Nwoko and Nwaoboshi are both of the PDP and had contested for the ticket of the party in the primaries.
It later won the senatorial election in the district with Nwaoboshi as its candidate.
However, after the first high court ruling, INEC withdrew the certificate issued to Nwaoboshi and presented same to Nwoko, a decision that presently is invalidated given the current appeal court ruling.

Chelsea 4-1 Arsenal: Eden Hazard Puts Maurizio Sarri's men to Europa League glory as Gunners fall to pieces in disastrous second-half performance

Chelsea 4-1 Arsenal in Europa League
Chelsea Celebrating their Goal

Chelsea perpetually seem on the brink of crisis, of losing a manager, of gaining the next one, arguing in training, arguing in finals sometimes. Yet out of chaos, comes order. This is their third major European trophy since 2012. In that time, 20 per cent of UEFA’s greatest prizes have gone back to Stamford Bridge.
This was an emphatic victory after a slow start, a vindication for coach Maurizio Sarri who now has a significant trophy on his c.v. as well as Champions League qualifications.

Maybe the knowledge that they were already in the big one next season helped Chelsea relax into the second-half here. Arsenal never regained the impetus of their better start, and the first goal, after 49 minutes, appeared to suck the confidence from them.
Within 15 minutes of that goal they trailed by three and although a riposte from Alex Iwobi afforded a flicker of hope for Arsenal, Chelsea’s fourth in the 72nd minute saw even more spaces opening up in Baku’s Olympic Stadium than could be seen at the start. And that was plenty, sad to say.
Unai Emery has not lost a Europa League tie since the 2012 semi-final with Valencia, but this was a bad time to break that run. It leaves Arsenal in Europe’s second tier competition for the third year running – with Manchester United and Wolves – a failure that cannot help but impact on their pulling power as Emery’s rebuild continues.
For Chelsea, it now remains to be seen whether they are interested enough to keep Sarri from the clutches of Juventus, whose owner could even be found in the team hotel prior to kick-off, and talking to Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck. He could have been discussing Champions League business but, even so – strange.
The elephant in the room, of course, is that this was a victory achieved with Eden Hazard, perhaps the last for Chelsea, and it only served to emphasise how much he will be missed. Without having the greatest game, he was their best player, scored twice – once from the penalty spot – and made another.

Basically, once he started firing – and it took a while – so did Chelsea and from that moment there was only one winner. It helps, too, that Olivier Giroud has been prolific in Europe this year – his 11 goals the most by one player for an English club since Alan Shearer for Newcastle in 2004-05. He started this rout, with the best goal of the night.

Inauguration: Obi Issues advise to Buhari & 29 new governors

PDP's vice president Candidate Peter Obi

The vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Peter Obi has call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the 29 state governors sworn-in on Wednesday to increase tempo of development in Nigeria.
Obi gave this charge in a press release signed by his Media Officer, Mr Val Obienyem while commemorating 20 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
Obi, in the statement urged the newly sworn-in chief executives to hit the ground running immediately to accelerate activities that would position the nation on a path of all sector growth.
“Do not allow the ecstasies of your elevation to becloud your sense of purpose,”  he said.
Obi described their swearing in as `historic’, adding that it coincided with 20 years the nation had practiced uninterrupted democracy.
He reminded them that they were saddled with the task of repairing the chequered democracy, which according to him was now going through a tough time.
In his words: “How you start will define how you will continue and probably end,” obi said.
He appealed to the president and governors to use the event to reflect about the country, about the life of service and about the condition of Nigeria.
Obi said that upon reflection, he was sure they would realise that they had a lot of work to do in different aspects.
“You are embarking on a serious journey.  Our country is today negative in all indices of development.
“Our power sector, security, health sector are crying for regeneration.
Today, the unemployment rate in the country is alarming.
“It is regrettable that our electoral processes are still a far cry to what it ought to be and urgent attention is needed to pull the country from the brinks,” he said.
While pledging his support in any way he can, Obi urged them to remain close to the people by always identifying with their sufferings and needs.

Breaking: Obasanjo, NACCIMA DG, 393 others escape crash aboard Ethiopian Airlines

Former president Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and 393 others aboard an Ethiopian Airlines plane, escaped crash on Wednesday at Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
Obasanjo who was reported to have been absent from the inauguration ceremony of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term, escaped crashing in the plane.
Other prominent Nigerians in the Ethiopian airline passenger aircraft, Boeing 777-300, included the Director General of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Amb. Ayoola Olukanni.
Also in the plane was Prof Samson Tunde Adebayo, the Director of Ports Inspection, National Agency For Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) as well as scores of Nigerians and other nationals.
The passenger aircraft, ET-901, had departed the Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, at about 9:10 a.m., Ethiopian time; 7 a.m Nigerian time.
A NAN correspondent, who was among the passengers, reported that the almost 5-hour flight from the Ethiopian capital to Lagos had been smooth until the pilot attempted to land at the Murtala Mohammed International airport.
Rather than landing on the first touch line of the runway, the pilot over short it, due to rain and heavy wind, landing on the third touchline.
NAN reports that on realising this, the pilot quickly maneuvered the plane back air, flying out of the Lagos airport.
After hovering between Lagos and areas suspected to be in Ogun, causing panic in passengers and crew members, the plane finally landed in Lagos airport, some 20 minutes after the initial false landing.
The atmosphere in the air bus upon landing was replica of what is obtainable in some Nigerian worship centres, as many passengers broke out into worship songs and clapping, while some fell to their knees in prayer.
Officials of the NCAA were unable to confirm the incident as the General Manager, Public Relations of the agency, Mr Sam Adurogboye, said there was no report of any incident in Lagos so far while the General Manager, Public Relations, Accident Investigation Bureau, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, said he had not received any incident notification from any airline.
NAN checks from the Control Tower also gave the same report.
But the Duty Manager and Chief Customer Service (Nigeria) of the airline, Mr Otori Otan, told NAN that if the pilot had continued taxing down after landing on the third touch line, he would have overshot the runway.
“But this is an experienced pilot. He realised this immediately.
“Fortunately, the distance between when he realised the situation still permitted him to take off and renegotiate landing,” Otori said.
He added that the incident was not out of place, while confirming that the wind obscured the pilot’s vision.
Otori also disclosed that most of the aircraft that flew out of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport had to fly against the mid day heavy wind.
“These things happen. That is where the sophistication of the aircraft and experience of the cabin crew members come in.
“The aircraft is one of the best you can have around and we are fortunate to have pilots who know their onions ” he said.
Furthermore, Mr Ikechi Uko, Media Consultant to Ethiopian Airline, confirmed that the aircraft had a “missed approach” while about landing due to poor visibility caused by inclimate weather.
“The aircraft thereafter made an air return before it proceeded to land successfully .”
He said the pilot’s effort was in line with the Safety and Recommended Practices (SARPS) in aviation
Obasanjo and Olukanni had both attended a Stakeholders Dialogue on Continental Trade and Strengthening Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) which ended on Tuesday in Addis Ababa.

Some Commissioners and Advisers from the three Senatorial Zones of the state who spoke on behalf of their colleagues thanked Governor Ortom for the opportunity given them to serve.
They described the Governor as a selfless leader who has uncommon passion for the interest of his people, and prayed God to continue to guide him as he begins another term in office this week.
